Title

The flash performance of Swissness

Summary of thesis

In the setting of an integrated Switzerland that continues to face challenges presented by im/migration, the flash performance of Swissness refers to an act in German-speaking Switzerland - and perhaps elsewhere in the country as well - that seems to be a fleeting yet unforgettable performance and defence of cultural identity. Hence, the flash performance of Swissness appears to be a cultural reaction to perceived threats to Swissness.

Swissness is defined as the broad concept that encompasses Swiss territory, Swiss people, Swiss custom, and Switzerland’s image projected to the outside.
