In this workshop, we aim to bring together PhD students and postdoctoral researchers in social anthropology to explore professional possibilities after the PhD, in academia and beyond. Given the fact that permanent positions in Swiss academia are very limited, we consider it to be important to discuss possibilities outside universities: where do anthropologists with a PhD find jobs?
This event is co-organized by the CUSO and the SAA and will be held at the University of Zurich on Friday, November 10th. The event seeks to shed light on the realities, vulnerabilities but also potentialities of professional careers for anthropologists in Switzerland, after the PhD. It will consist of roundtable discussions, where anthropologists with positions in and beyond academia will share their experiences and insights, and be followed by time for discussion, networking, and collective organization. The event will be rather small and informal and is aimed at PhD students and postdoctoral researchers in social and cultural anthropology, based at universities in Switzerland.
The workshop will start at 12:30 with an informal lunch (provided by CUSO).
From 13:00-17:00, we will have several rounds of discussions about career challenges and opportunities, specifically for anthropologists after the PhD. There will be room for discussion, networking and collective organization.
An informal apero will be held from 17:00-18:00.
